How Can You Not Let the Naturalization Tests Deter You from Citizenship?

You may be thinking about becoming a naturalized citizen if you are already a resident of the United States through a green card, permanent resident card, or work-related visa.

Naturalization is the process by which someone who was born in another country can become a citizen of the United States . Naturalized citizens have to meet certain requirements that some immigrants may find daunting.

What tests does the USCIS require?

  • The English and Civics tests are required for naturalization. The English test is designed to assess proficiency in the predominant language in the United States. To demonstrate proficiency in English, test-takers must read, answer questions, take a spoken test, and submit written work.
  • The Civics test is designed to ensure that potential citizens understand their roles and how the United States government works. Each applicant will be asked to answer 10 questions in their naturalization interview. There are 100 questions. They will pass the test if they answer six of the 10 questions correctly.
  • Naturalization tests are not easy pop quizzes you can’t prepare for and that you only get one chance to pass. Once you have decided that naturalization is your goal you can begin preparing for the test.
