How To Protect Yourself Against Immigration Fraud?

U.S. Immigration Law Group (USILG), warns against funding “notaries”, immigration consultants, attorneys or other organizations that claim such immigration reform is already in place or imminent. There are steps you can take to prepare for immigration reform if it does eventually pass.

  1. All of your immigration records including any applications or petitions that you have previously filed, should be gathered. You can request this information from the government through a Freedom of Information Act request (FOIA).
  2. All criminal and court documents that you might have should be collected. These documents could include proof of any fines or probation that you may have received.
  3. All family records such as marriage certificates, birth certificates, death certificates and passports should be gathered.
  4. You should have physical presence documents, such as paycheck stubs and academic transcripts.
  5. Request a transcript from the IRS of income tax payments. Talk to a certified tax preparer if you owe any federal or state taxes.
  6. To evaluate your immigration history, and to identify any current issues or opportunities that might be of concern, schedule a consultation with Santa Ana’s competent immigration lawyer.
